The Pantanal of Mato Grosso, located in Brazil, is an ecosystem with 250 square kilometers in length, and average elevation of 100 meters, located in southern Mato Grosso and in northwestern Mato Grosso do Sul, and also cover the northern Paraguay and eastern Bolivia (which is called the Bolivian Chaco), considered by UNESCO World Natural Heritage and Biosphere Reserve. The complex name comes from the region have more than one Pantanal inside. Despite the name, there is a small number of wetlands in the Pantanal region. But still the Pantanal is one of the most preferred destinations by tourists in Brazil. Many foreign tourists visit the Pantanal every year.

The annual flooding and low soil fertility are the main reasons why the Pantanal is still largely intact. These natural features have prevented human occupation, the expansion of agriculture and intensive soil.
