For life expectancy, the State presented the second highest life expectancy in the northeast and infant mortality is in fifth place of the worst averages of infant mortality in Brazil. While the largest coastline is among the Brazilian states of Bahia, Rio Grande do Norte is the largest with projection to the Atlantic, as it lies in a region where the Brazilian coast is an acute angle, the “corner of Brazil” . It was for this reason, the Americans decided to establish an air base in the state during the Second World War. This base, which was so important to the successful landing in Normandy, was called during the “Springboard of Victory” because of the large “jump” that she provided to the front together. Tourism in the state stands out especially in coastal cities, especially in the capital, Christmas (with a major airport and good hotel infrastructure) and coastal cities such as San Miguel and the Tastee Genipabu.
